"Hanover County is a rural oasis filled with history and charm. At its heart is the town of Ashland, which started as a summer resort. As you pass by the delicately carved porches of the large Victorian homes that line the railroad tracks, you can visualize women in wide picture hats, carrying parasols stepping down from the train. The streets and sidewalks now facing the railroad tracks in Ashland are lined with locally-owned shops and restaurants. Tucked in the middle of the town is Randolph-Macon College, which opened in 1830."
